The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan, multi-issue organization that works on three levels: national, state and local. As women's suffrage was written into the constitution in 1920, the League of Women Voters was formed from the National American Woman Suffrage Association. League membership is open to both women and men.
The current League of Women Voters of Columbus, Georgia was first formed as a provisional league on March 17, 1971 and was recognized as a full-fledged league on on March 29, 1973.
Our local action items are:
Voter Service: Take action to increase voter registration and participation
Public Library: Monitor public library and take appropriate action as indicated in the Library study, concensus and position
Status of Women City Employees: Action to ensure the equal status of women in Columbus
The League of Women Voters of Columbus, GA, offers membership to men and women who meet the following requirements:
Resident of Columbus/Muscogee County or neighboring community
Citizen of the United States
18 years old or older
